BeasonApps · QR Scanner

Privacy Policy

Your scans and generated codes are processed on your device. This policy explains local storage, Android backups, and what changes when you choose to use an external service.

Effective and last updated: Android package: com.beason.barscanner
Processing on your device

Camera scanning, gallery recognition and QR generation use bundled ZXing libraries.

Local history and your controls

Codes and settings are stored locally. Android backup settings may create additional copies.

External actions are your choice

Opening links, searching, sharing and using support involve the services you select.

1. Scope and operator

BeasonApps provides QR Scanner, the Android application identified by com.beason.barscanner. This policy covers the app and this privacy-policy website. You do not need to create an account to use the app.

The current app does not operate a server for receiving app content or include advertising or analytics SDKs. It requests the Android INTERNET permission to display this privacy policy at https://qrscanner.beasonapps.com in an in-app WebView. We do not receive an automatic feed of your scans or generated codes. Android system services, this website, and other apps you choose to use can process information separately, as described below.

2. Camera, gallery and code generation

Camera scanning processes preview frames locally using bundled JourneyApps/ZXing libraries to recognize QR codes and barcodes. The app does not automatically record video or save camera photographs. Gallery recognition reads the image you select through Android’s system document picker and decodes it on your device. It does not upload that image or require access to your entire photo library.

QR generation also runs locally. Information you enter may include text, website addresses, Wi-Fi network names and passwords, contact details, telephone numbers, e-mail, messages, calendar information or social-profile details. The complete generated payload is encoded in the QR image and saved in local history. A QR code is readable by anyone who obtains the image; it is not a way to encrypt the information inside it.

3. What is stored on your device

The app stores scan and creation history in its private Android application storage. Each history entry contains the complete decoded or generated text, barcode format, content type, date and time, favorite status, and whether it came from scanning or creation. It also has a randomly generated per-entry UUID used to manage that record. This UUID is not an advertising identifier or a cross-app user identifier.

Local preferences include language, search engine, sound, vibration, automatic-copy settings, and information needed to remember permission requests and completed guidance. There is no automatic synchronization to a BeasonApps account. Android backup or device-transfer services may copy eligible local data; see section 7.

4. System clipboard

Opening the Clipboard creation page reads the current system clipboard so that its text can be used to create a code. Choosing Copy writes code content to the system clipboard. The optional automatic-copy feature writes successful scan results to the clipboard when enabled; it is off by default.

Clipboard content is handled by Android and may be available to other apps or device clipboard services under your device settings and platform restrictions. Clearing a history entry does not clear the system clipboard. Avoid copying passwords or other sensitive content unless you intend to place it there.

5. Permissions, saved images and sharing

  • Camera: requested when you enter camera scanning. You can instead recognize a selected gallery image or enter a barcode manually.
  • Selected image access: Android’s document picker gives the app access to the image you choose for recognition.
  • Saving images: Save writes a generated QR image to Android’s media collection, normally Pictures/QR Scanner. Android 9 and earlier may request storage permission for this action; the permission is limited in the manifest to Android API 28 and below.
  • Vibration: used for optional scan feedback, without collecting vibration-related information.
  • Internet: used to load privacy-policy pages and their first-party resources from https://qrscanner.beasonapps.com in the app. Camera scanning, gallery recognition and QR generation remain local and do not upload their content.

Image sharing creates a temporary PNG in the app’s cache and grants the receiving app access through Android’s sharing system and a FileProvider. The chosen recipient or app can retain its own copy. Saved images may also be included in photo backups configured outside QR Scanner. QR Scanner does not request location, address-book or calendar-read permissions; its contact, calendar and map actions hand information to an external app you choose.

6. Actions that involve another app or service

Code recognition and creation do not need a network connection. If you choose an external action, Android opens the relevant browser, app, settings screen or sharing destination. That provider processes the information under its own terms and privacy policy.

  • Open: sends the selected web address to your browser.
  • Web search, product or book search: includes code content in the search URL. In particular, Web search uses the original decoded text as the query, which can include the entire contents of a Wi-Fi, contact or other sensitive code. Search-engine options include Google, Bing, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo.
  • Map, call, e-mail, SMS, contact and calendar actions: pass the relevant location, number, message, contact or event details to the selected app. Complete or cancel the action there.
  • Wi-Fi settings: may copy a code’s password and open Android’s Wi-Fi settings at your request.
  • Share and Rate app: send the content you select to the sharing destination, or open the app’s listing in Google Play or a browser. Those services may process their own account, device and request information.

Check a code before opening or searching it. A search or share action can disclose the code’s complete content to the service or people you select.

7. Android backup and device transfer

The app currently sets android:allowBackup="true". Depending on your Android version, device manufacturer, backup provider and device settings, Android may back up or transfer eligible app data, including history and preferences. This can include full code contents such as Wi-Fi passwords. A later restore may bring those records back to a device.

These transfers are handled by Android and the backup service, not by a QR Scanner cloud-sync account. Review your device’s backup and restore settings and the provider’s policy. The app’s cache is separate from saved media and from eligible app-data backups. For Android’s explanation, see Auto Backup for Apps.

8. Retention and your deletion controls

Local history remains until you delete it, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app, subject to copies and restores managed by Android. We do not specify a separate fixed retention period for data stored only on your device.

  • Use History to delete individual entries or selected records.
  • Use Android Settings → Apps → QR Scanner → Storage to clear the app’s cache or application data. Names vary by device. Clearing cache removes temporary app files; clearing storage/data also resets local history and preferences.
  • Delete saved QR images separately in your Gallery or Files app, including its trash and any photo backup if desired.
  • Review Android’s backup settings separately to manage backup and device-transfer copies.

Deleting history does not delete saved images, clipboard content, system backups, messages, shared files, search history, contacts, calendar entries or other third-party copies. Clearing storage or uninstalling cannot guarantee that a provider’s existing backup or another person’s copy is erased.

9. This website and Cloudflare

Choosing Privacy Policy in the app opens this site in an in-app WebView. That viewer only loads HTTPS pages and resources from qrscanner.beasonapps.com. JavaScript, DOM storage, local file and content-provider access, and mixed HTTP content are disabled. Links to third-party sites open in an external browser.

This static website is hosted through Cloudflare. Loading a page, whether in the app’s WebView or a browser, necessarily sends a request to that hosting infrastructure. Cloudflare may process your IP address, requested URL, request time, browser or device information and related request or security information to deliver and protect the website. Its processing and infrastructure locations are governed by its service arrangements and privacy policy.

We do not add JavaScript, analytics tags, advertising SDKs, remote fonts, account forms or local-storage tracking to this policy website. Its Worker does not add application request logging; infrastructure-level processing can still occur. Visiting this website does not give BeasonApps access to your app history or scanned images.

10. Support and privacy requests

You can contact BeasonApps through the QR Scanner WhatsApp support group for product help or questions and requests about this policy. Joining the group or sending a message is optional; neither happens automatically when you use the app or read this page.

Open WhatsApp support group

This is a group, not a private support inbox. Group members may see your messages, shared files, profile details and phone number according to WhatsApp’s features and your settings. WhatsApp and group participants handle information you choose to share. Read the WhatsApp privacy policy before joining. Do not post Wi-Fi passwords, private codes or other confidential information.

We can respond to privacy questions and requests relating to information you choose to send us. We cannot remotely inspect or erase data held only on your device, erase another group member’s copies, or manage a third party’s backups. Use the device controls above for local deletion. If you request help, describe the issue without sending the underlying sensitive code.

11. Security and responsible use

The app relies on Android’s application-storage and permission protections. It does not add a separate encryption layer to history. Protect your device and backup account, and review code content before saving, copying or sharing it. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.

We do not sell scan content or use it for advertising profiles. The app does not require an age or other profile information. If a child uses the app, a parent or guardian should help them avoid entering or sharing personal information, particularly in an external search, share destination or support group.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app or its data handling changes. The effective and last-updated date at the top identifies this version. Review the policy associated with the version of QR Scanner you use, and contact BeasonApps through the support link above with questions.
